West Valley City Police Adds First Bloodhound To K-9 Unit

"Copper" became the first bloodhound in the West Valley City Police Department's K-9 unit. (KUTV) WEST VALLEY CITY - A 13-week-old bloodhound is going through the police academy in West Valley City, as a member of the K-9 unit.The dog, named "Copper," will be the first bloodhound in the city's police department, officials said. After it completes a training program, the dog will be responsible for a variety of duties -- like tracking down criminal suspects, or a lost child."We train him when we are on duty. We find some time when it is slow to train," said Shane Matheson of the West Valley Police Department. "He is going to be a pretty valuable tool."The West Valley City Police Department said "Copper" should be finished training, and working full-time on the force sometime in the spring of 2009.
